Chamath is an actual contrarian

If you want to sell a product, you need to find customers. The cost of finding those customers is typically accounted for in a category called “Sales and Marketing.” In startups, sometimes we call this “acquisition channels.”

A company needs to find the appropriate acquisition channel for their product. A big expensive product can justify a big expensive sales process targeting a small group of potential customers. A cheap product needs a more cost effective acquisition channel that reaches lots of people. Mismatch channel to product and you can get an inviable model (and either not get users or run out of money).
